I'm Emma, a licensed mental health counselor with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Brooklyn College, clinical supervisor, and the founder of Aera Therapy. My approach is warm, vocal, and collaborative. I’m not the kind of therapist who just nods silently. I’ll offer reflections, ask real questions, and help you make sense of the parts of yourself that feel confusing or hard to sit with.

Therapy with me is about making space for life’s complexities and helping people uncover their own strength and clarity within them. You may be emotionally disconnected, overwhelmed, or caught in patterns that don’t feel great but can be hard to shift. I get it. I specialize in helping people who are incredibly self-aware, but still find themselves spiraling, people-pleasing, or second-guessing every decision.

Together, we’ll take an honest look at what’s been keeping you stuck or causing distress. Whether it’s complex family dynamics, historical trauma, obsessive thought loops, or the inner critic that never seems to quiet, we’ll work to soften the self-judgment, shift patterns that aren’t working, and build a narrative more grounded in self-trust.

I pull from years of experience working in hospital and private practice settings, and I have expertise in helping people navigate trauma, anxious and obsessive thinking, complicated relational challenges, self esteem, substance use, and disordered eating. Through our work together, you’ll gain a greater sense of control, strengthen your confidence, build deeper connections with others, and develop the resilience and skills to navigate life’s challenges.

I believe therapy is most powerful when it is guided by genuine curiosity about the human experience, willingness to embrace complex or conflicting parts of oneself, and a commitment to a therapeutic relationship built on active engagement and radical honesty.

Outside of sessions, I enjoy caring for my many houseplants, voraciously checking out library books, or searching for a good pasta.
